Our Christmas wish? A Trauma Informed society

Lancashire’s Children and Family Wellbeing Service have joined many other organisations across Lancashire in pledging their commitment to being a Trauma Informed organisation.

Trauma can have a lasting impact on a person life, for both themselves and their families. To work with individuals and their families in a trauma-informed way means understanding how traumatic events can shape young people’s neurological development as well as other aspects of their life such as social behaviours.

More than just an understanding, Lancashire’s Children & Family Wellbeing Service are working to increase their staff and practitioner’s awareness of how trauma can negatively impact individual children and their communities and the support they may need.

SAFETY:

Safety is a priority, and all individuals should feel safe physically, psychologically, and emotionally.

TRUST:

Being transparent about what happens next and making it clear to individuals that they have rights and a pathway to follow.

CHOICE:

Supporting people to know what their choices are and being a key part in young people’s early health assessment.

COLLABORATION:

It is about making decisions with the family, not for them family.

EMPOWERMENT:

Creating an atmosphere that provides young people and their families to build on their strengths and encourage them to be part of the plan.

“Our staff will put young people and their families at the centre of their practice as we become trauma aware and pledge to ensure that the voices of children and young people are central to our responses.”
