Over 2,000 professionals working in social care, education, police, health and charities have attended a Trauma Informed Lancashire workshop over the last 8 months.
Supt Justin Srivastava, Trauma Informed Lancashire lead at Lancashire Violence Reduction Network said:
“This is a huge achievement. Members of the public, statutory, and third sector organisations across the county have embraced the concept of a Trauma Informed Lancashire, which aims to improve Lancashire residents’ experience when interacting with schools and colleges, police, the NHS and charities in terms of being sensitive to trauma individuals may have experienced.
“By working together across public services, the third sector and with people with personal experience of trauma we hope to share learning along the journey of planning and delivering trauma informed services so that individuals have more positive experiences both in terms of interactions with services and in those services being structured to better support the needs of those who have experienced trauma.”
Lancashire Violence Reduction Network is leading on the Trauma Informed Lancashire initiative on behalf of partner organisations and offers three workshop options:
- Basic awareness – aimed at practitioners such as social workers, teachers, clinical staff, police officers and youth workers to help develop an understanding of trauma informed approaches and practice. Sessions are held weekly at AFC Fylde and are bookable here: https://trauma-informed-awareness.eventbrite.co.uk
- Leaders and managers – Aims to help develop leaders’ understanding of a trauma informed workforce and organisational development and then decide on their own organisational training requirements. Sessions are held monthly at multiple locations across Lancashire, the first of this year being at Burnley FC in May, this is bookable here: https://trauma-informed-leaders.eventbrite.co.uk
- Train the trainer – Available on request for organisations looking to adopt a ‘train the trainer’ model. Email the team at LancsVRN@lancashire.police.uk to find out more.
The workshops have received excellent feedback from attendees and places continue to book up quickly.A senior family support worker commented on the ‘basic awareness’ workshop:
“Really useful training alongside colleagues form different services and so gaining different perspectives as well as identifying a common approach.”
A probation officer who attended a ‘basic awareness’ workshop said:
“The make-up of the participants from different agencies really enriched the discussions around trauma-informed practice.”
Workshops dates throughout 2022 are now available on the links above.
